The Mirror  Journal

A REFLECTIVE PRACTICE TOOL TO HELP YOU TAP INTO
YOUR BUSINESS’S MOST VALUABLE RESOURCE: YOU

How much time do you spend typing questions into Google, scrolling Facebook groups for clues, asking relative strangers on the internet for advice, or generally looking outside yourself for answers—

ONLY TO FEEL LIKE THE INFORMATION YOU GET HITS JUST LEFT OF CENTRE?

Kinda sucks, huh.

Because when you have your own business, there’s ALWAYS a question that needs answering, a decision that has to be made, an idea that needs sense-checking, or a mindset gremlin that needs to be moved outta the way—

And if the tools you have at your disposal aren’t doing the job, it makes moving forward into a better, more fulfilling version of your business pretty bloody hard.

✔  One you could call on as and when you needed

✔  One that made it easy for you to get perspective on your thoughts and ideas

✔  One that helped you integrate the big picture with the smaller, how-to-get-there stuff

✔  One that allowed you to access your own wisdom and guidance ahead of time, before you found yourself in a kerfuffle

✔  One that helped you trust yourself and your ability to figure things out more and more every time you used it

✔  And one that was less than $50 schmackeroos

What if there was another source of information you could tap—

LEANING IN TO YOUR SCREEN?
EXCELLENT. IT’S TIME FOR YOU TO MEET…

The Mirror  Journal

A reflective practice tool that helps you tap into what you think, know, and feel and use that intel to guide your next step,
so every decision you make brings you closer to the version of your business that supports you and the life you want to lead

No generic, feel-good-fluff. Just solid prompts that help you work your way through specific challenges you face as a business-owning human, like naming your price,
what to do when things aren’t working, and how to respond when a
big opportunity lands at your feet

“This is my favourite business tool. It's like a mini-course in building your self-trust muscle.

It's made it a million times easier to access my own wisdom and guidance ahead of time, before I find myself in a kerfuffle. And when I do land myself in a swamp of self-doubt, it makes it approx 300x easier to avoid a total meltdown, and navigate my way out.

Sometimes journaling makes my brain think INCLUDE ALL THE THINGS, DO THIS RIGHT but this is framed so well that I skip that useless mind drivel. The question about what value or skill or glory nugget do you know you’re bringing to the table, I even print out my answer to that and have it there on my desk. When I had a mini breakdown on my day rate last week, I had that there and I was like, ‘It’s fine. It’s fine. I’ve got this.’

I've signed up for a maybe...3? other journal/reflective tools, and this is the only one I've consistently used. I reach for it out of habit, which happened surprisingly quickly...I guess cause I saw results immediately. “

Ready to make the shift?

WHILE WE’RE TALKING ABOUT HOW GREAT THE MIRROR JOURNAL IS,
THERE ARE TWO KEY FEATURES I WANT TO POINT OUT.

FIRSTLY…

The Mirror Journal is situational—

WHICH MEANS IT’S LESS ABOUT OPENING IT UP EVERY EVENING TO DIARISE YOUR DAY,

AND MORE ABOUT HAVING A RESOURCE TO LEAN ON WHEN YOU NEED IT

For example…

Just wrapped a project that felt great and went gangbusters, and want to work out why so you can replicate more of that glory moving forward?
Go to the “On project end” section on page 9.

About to step up to the plate in a new way, but spending more time quietly shitting yourself than actually doing the thing?
Go to the “Scared” section on page 19.

Have a proposal you need to send out, but no freaking idea how to price it?
Go to the “Naming your price” section on page 24.

Reallllyyy need to rejig your services, but don’t know where to start?
Go to the “Changing Lanes” section on page 33.

Just suffered a punch-to-the-guts kinda misstep (maybe your launch flopped, or you missed out on a big project, or you made a bad investment) and need a kick up the bum to get out of the self-medicating-on-the-couch-with-an-extra-large-pack-of-TimTams phase?
Go to the “Failure and Mistakes” section on page 51.

It’s like I sat down with a bunch of business-owning humans and asked them what they needed or something, huh?

There are 12 sections waiting for you inside,
and they’re designed to fit any business
where YOU get to call the shots

For example, the ‘On project start’ section might refer to a client project *or* to a project in your own business, like launching a new product, or narrowing your niche, or making a new hire. In other words, you don’t need to have a certain type of project to get insight, clarity, and confidence out of that section of The Mirror Journal: you just need to have a project you’re about to begin.

So, whether you’re a copywriter, graphic designer, digital product creator, owner of a glorious e-commerce store, or someone who makes snorkels for fish, The Mirror Journal is designed with you in mind.

Here are those 12 sections...

  1. On project start

  2. On project end

  3. When a big opportunity lands at your doorstep

  4. Scared

  5. Naming your price

  6. Taking Stock

  7. Changing Lanes

  8. The day before you leap

  9. Stuck

  10. When things aren’t working

  11. Failure and mistakes

  12. The place of deep content

Look like the kind of list that will benefit your biz?

SECONDLY…

Because The Mirror Journal is digital, you can use each section as many times as you need

Open it on screen and type away; print a section and fill the pages with pen; print the entire thing and keep it ready and waiting in your desk drawer.

Fill it.

Save your thoughts. Erase them and start again.

And yeah, I know: I like fancy leather-bound journals from Kikki.K too.

But you can’t fill the same sheet twice…

So here we are, with a journal that will see you through as many years as you need. And it’s a helluva lot cheaper than coaching.

“I'll be coming back from maternity leave with more purpose and focus. I know WHAT I want to get done, and I have a bit of a plan for how to get out of my own way.

I found the experience MOST WONDERFUL. I've used the Taking stock and Changing Lanes sections so far, as they most accurately fit where I am. They also go together wonderfully. I feel like I have more of a sense of what I want to focus on, and more importantly, why.

It kinda helped me integrate the big picture (where I'm most comfortable playing) with the smaller, how-to-get-there stuff. Plus the prompts helped me get honest with myself, and also work through how to fight off the goblins that will try to get in the way.

But for real, I’m being more methodical and mindful when it comes to what I'm doing, client work, business decisions, life decisions etc. Kinda just been stumbling along for the most part, and this feels like an accessible version of DIY coaching. I can jump in and use it when I need to, and get better at working through my thoughts and ideas until they're ready to see the light of day (if ever).

I can see myself using it to start + end client projects, when I get stuck, when I have an idea I'm noodling on, when I'm wanting to burn everything down (which is quite frequently), or when I'm just feeling like I need to reset.

Also worth nothing that I just don't fucking use other journal-type things... most have felt too rigid and were often more general lifey type prompts rather than business owner specific. I guess for me, it's once again your magical combo of psyc + copy/biz that makes it a win.”

“It's organized in a way that makes sense for an entrepreneur - it's not generic and feel-goody: it's solid.

I started off the day feeling very agitated and uncertain. I spent about an hour with it (The Mirror Journal) and I felt so much better when I was done than when I started - I  worked through to some clarity and peace of mind.

It was a really concrete place to sit down and just sort some stuff out. And your prompts are really good! I like that it feels a little back peeling back the onion; like there’s different layers of depth. Like you answer one thing, and then there’s a prompt to say ‘a little more’ or ‘let it loose’ or ‘let it rip’ or ‘let’s get real here’.

I went through and did almost everything, because I wanted to but I LOVE that you could go back and have the pertinent questions for an issue, that you could go back to again and again.

It's a great tool for reflection and to do the thing you really need to do when something isn't working: STEP AWAY and reflect. But, without a tool like this, I don't always have the discipline to go deep enough - this broke past the antsy discomfort  and got me deeper pretty quick.”

LOOK, I KNOW THIS PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT STUFF IS A LITTLE NEBULOUS, SO BEFORE YOU CLICK OUT OF THIS PAGE THINKING, “NAH, NOT FOR ME”

Here’s a taste of what you can expect to happen when you use The Mirror Journal

I’ve used reflective journaling like this to:

  • Identify and reinforce boundaries, from big stuff like what my work days look like and how to communicate with clients, right down to the little stuff, like how much time to spend in Slack groups and which apps to delete from my phone

  • Create and re-shape my services, so my clients get more of what they want and the work feels light and motivating for me

  • Work out that the launch debrief I offered at the end of each big launch project was THE thing that led to repeat bookings… so I pulled it out and offered it as a standalone service that now functions as a glorious upsell into my 5-figure projects

  • Identify which pieces of my processes I really have no business doing and tackle the mindset gremlins that come with outsourcing

  • Work out which podcasts, summits, and guest workshops are aligned with my current biz goals, and therefore a good use of my time

  • Move through that hellish resistance that plonked itself on my lap when I was getting ready to launch Brain Camp for the first time, so I could actually go and put the offer out into the world (and I’m bloody grateful I did!!)

THE MIRROR JOURNAL

THE MIRROR JOURNAL ✹

So, yeah… I use it ALL the time, and it’s THE thing that’s responsible for 90% of my decisions, and therefore 90% of my success—

But I actually think the coolest thing about it is that you become your own source of information. And, when you put that insight into practice and good things happen, you start to trust yourself more and more…

To the point where you make the moves you want to, because you know you can handle whatever happens along the way.

FAQs

“I have a {insert your biz type here} — is this for me?”

If it’s an online business where you get to make the decisions, yes — regardless of whether it’s service-based, product-based, or something in between. The 12 sections inside don’t assume any context beyond the section title itself.

“Ok, but what if I’m not in one of the 12 ‘situations’ at the moment?”

If that’s because none of the situations apply to your business at any point in time (you unicorn, you) *or* because you have the mindset and clarity of a fully-actualised being, then you don’t need The Mirror Journal. Give yourself a pat on the back and skip away.

If it’s because you’re in a space where you don’t have any projects on the go (womp womp) *or* a space where everything feels wonderfully aligned (huzzah!), then the ‘Taking Stock’ section or ‘The Place of Deep Content’ section would actually be the perfect place to dive in. It’s amazing what kind of nuggets you uncover once you set aside the time and space to see things in more detail.

I’ll also say (from experience) that neither scenario is permanent, and entrepreneurship is a constant process of working out how to spend less time in Wompsville and more time in Huzzahplace… and that process becomes so much easier when you get in the habit of reflective practice.

“Can I print it?”

You sure can! The Mirror Journal is yours to use in whatever way works best for you. If it helps, all of my glorious beta testers used it in different ways. One person used it on their screen as the editable PDF it is, another got it printed and bound (#fancy) so it could live on her desk, one copy-pasted the prompts into Google Forms because she has “a weird averson to PDFs”, and one used it on their screen and made some notes in their physical journal on the side. There are probably as many different approaches as there are humans, so you do you 😉

“How soon after check out will I have The Mirror Journal in my hot little hands?”

Immediately! The Mirror Journal lives on Podia (my online course platform) as a digital download, so as soon as you check out, you can download it and use it at will. If you misplace it in future (hey, it happens!) you just need to log back into Podia, and it will be there waiting for you. If you have any problems, reach out to support@kirstyfanton.com and my VA or I will get you sorted.

“I’ve got another question…”

Great! Shimmy it to me at hello@kirstyfanton.com and I’ll get back to you ASAP.
